Mental Health Education Coordinator

The National Mental Health Corps (NMHC) is a national mental health workforce development program that partners with schools, universities, health care systems, and community-based organizations to expand access to mental health education, prevention, and support services. NMHC AmeriCorps Volunteers serve within their communities to strengthen local capacity and support the implementation of evidence-based and evidence-informed mental health programming. In South Carolina, NMHC Volunteers help address the growing need for increased mental health awareness, early intervention, and community education. Through service, members support initiatives that provide individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to recognize mental health concerns, reduce stigma, and connect individuals to appropriate resources and support. At SC Thrive, NMHC AmeriCorps Volunteers support school and community mental health outreach and education initiatives. Members implement Adult Mental Health First Aid trainings for schools and community members, helping participants develop the skills to recognize signs of mental health challenges, provide initial support, and guide individuals toward professional resources when needed. In addition to facilitating trainings, members assist with outreach efforts, partnership development, communications, promotional activities, and program coordination. Volunteers contribute to data collection, reporting, and evaluation efforts that help strengthen and sustain mental health education initiatives. Through their service with SC Thrive, NMHC Volunteers help expand access to mental health resources, build community awareness, and create more supportive environments across South Carolina.

Member Duties

National Mental Health Corps (NMHC) AmeriCorps Volunteers serve alongside community organizations to expand access to mental health education, prevention, and support services. At SC Thrive, members support school and community mental health initiatives by implementing Adult Mental Health First Aid trainings and helping increase awareness of available resources. Volunteers assist with outreach efforts, community partnerships, communications, and promotional activities to engage participants and expand access to mental health education. Members also contribute to program coordination, data collection, and basic evaluation efforts to support continuous improvement and sustainability. Through service and collaboration, NMHC Volunteers help strengthen community capacity to recognize mental health needs, reduce stigma, and connect individuals with appropriate resources and support.
