Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. is seeking a Mental Health Specialist to provide counseling and casework services for individuals with mental illness or substance use disorders.

You will assess needs, develop service plans, and conduct individual and group therapy to promote health and recovery. Requires a Master’s in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling and NYSED LMSW/LMHC or QHP eligibility with licensure within a year.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work or mental health counseling is required.
• LICENSURE: LMSW/LMHC or eligible QHP status with ability to obtain/licensure.
• 1-2 years clinical experience in substance use and/or mental health treatment.
• Knowledge of crisis management techniques and violence prevention.

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling and casework services to individuals with mental illness or substance use disorders.
• Assess behavioral health status via interviews and observations; develop service plans.
• Offer individual and group counseling to promote health and recovery.
• Provide case management toward community living and referrals as needed.
• Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation.
• Coordinate with other behavioral health professionals for effective treatment.
• Deliver crisis intervention when clients are in danger to self or others.
