Job description

Mental Health Clinicians work in school settings, providing essential mental health services, including individual and group therapy, diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, and case management. These professionals collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address clients' mental health needs, ensuring continuity of care within the school environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Provide direct individual and group counseling to students with IEPs.
  2. Conduct assessments and write Educationally Related Social Emotional Services (ERSES)-related reports to inform IEP team decisions.
  3. Develop and implement therapeutic goals and objectives in alignment with IEPs.
  4. Participate in IEP meetings, sharing relevant social-emotional information and progress updates.
  5. Consult with teachers, administrators, and families to support students’ social-emotional development.
  6. Document services, interventions, and student progress in compliance with district and legal requirements.
  7. Provide crisis intervention and support as needed.
  8. Collaborate with outside agencies and providers to coordinate care for students.
  9. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in school-based mental health and special education law.

Additional responsibilities include assessing, evaluating, and providing mental health and substance abuse services, performing clinical documentation, participating in treatment planning, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements / Qualifications

Training and Experience:

  • A Master’s degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Must be currently registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist, Associate Clinical Social Worker, or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, or be within 90 days of graduation with documentation of application for registration.

Note: Proof of Master's degree and BBS registration is required by the date of hire.

Licenses / Certifications / Special Requirements
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License or alternative transportation.
  • Current California BBS registration number.
  • Must obtain a LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC license within six years of initial registration for continued employment.
  • Experience with specific age groups or service types may be required for some positions.
  • Spanish-English bilingual skills are desirable.
