Job summary

Butler Hospital in Providence, RI, seeks a Mental Health Worker to advocate for patients and support nursing staff in direct care, focusing on daily living activities and a safe therapeutic environment. External candidates need CNA, internal staff must obtain CNA within 6 months.

The unit emphasizes care for patients with complex needs, including psychotic, mood, and behavioral disturbances. This is a full-time evening shift 36/72 schedule every other weekend.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in any of the social sciences preferred and/or comparable behavioral health experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
• Experience in working with mentally ill and/or developmentally delayed clients.
• External candidates: must have C.N.A certification.
• Internal MHW candidates: must have or complete C.N.A. certification within 6 months of accepting position.

Responsibilities

• Provides role as patient advocate through role modeling of performance standards and by communicating and meeting patients’ needs for service.
• Assists registered nurses in direct care of patients, specifically patients’ activities of daily living.
