Job summary

Alabama Clinical Schools in Birmingham is seeking a Mental Health Associate to provide direct care to residents with psychiatric disorders, ensuring safety and wellbeing on the unit. You will support daily activities, facilitate groups, and assist with crisis intervention under supervision.

The role requires compassion, strong documentation, and adherence to therapeutic approaches in a residential setting. Located in a secure campus, you’ll join a team dedicated to enriching youth and families

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or associate's degree in related mental health field preferred.
  • Must be 19 years or older and pass drug screen and background check.
  • Experience in a residential mental/behavioral health setting strongly preferred.

Our campus offers a relaxing setting for youth who are working through mental health disorders, behavioral issues, and sexually reactive behaviors. We provide 24-hour supervision, individualized care, and educational services with low student/teacher ratios, to ensure patients are receiving structured and holistic care. Our campus features semi-private bedrooms, unit group rooms, dining facilities, and spacious grounds within a secure facility.

Alabama Clinical Schools has been a behavioral healthcare provider in the Birmingham area for over 20 years. The Mental Health Associate
  • He/she will provides direct care to residents with psychiatric disorders, to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • MHA’s have the primary responsibility for ensuring the resident’s safety on the unit utilizing a therapeutic approach to all tasks including assistance with daily activities, facilitation of groups and other duties as assigned by Group Leader, Assistant Group Leader, or Shift Supervisor.

This position is 2nd shift 3:00pm-11:30pm ,with a rotating 12 hour weekend shift(9am-9:30pm , Sat and Sun).

Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Associates degree in psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or other related mental health field preferred, but not required.
  • Detailed and organized with strong documentation skills Able to safely monitor residents and perform physical management techniques and crisis intervention.
  • Experience in a residential mental/behavioral health setting strongly preferred.
  • Must be 19 years or older, and have a successful drug screen and background check (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check).
