Job summary

Universal Health Services, Coral Shores Behavioral Hospital in Stuart, FL, is seeking a Mental Health Technician to join the treatment team and provide continuous patient care under the supervision of an RN.

The role supports patients from adolescents to geriatrics on 12-hour shifts, emphasizing safe, compassionate care and teamwork in a fast-paced behavioral health setting.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: At least 1 year in a healthcare setting, strongly preferred in behavioral health.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Must complete CPI training (crisis prevention) after hire.
• Must pass competency exams within 90 days of hire.
• Overtime and flexible hours may be required; every other weekend.
• Able to prioritize workload, multi-task, and communicate effectively for patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients.
• Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Support treatment team across age ranges from adolescents to geriatrics.

Coral Shores Behavioral Hospital is an 80-bed behavioral health facility located in Stuart, FL, and provides inpatient treatment for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults. Our professional staff individualizes care to uniquely fit the intensity and severity of each patient case and their family's needs. Because crisis occurs at all times of the day and night, our services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Position Summary

The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from adolescents through geriatrics depending on which unit worked. MHTs work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Shifts: 12 hr. Shifts,7p-7a, 7a-7p

Job Requirements

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: At least one (1) year of previous experience in a healthcare setting and/or previous behavioral health experience strongly preferred.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Must complete and maintain training Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) (aggression management, crisis intervention and restraint training). Training may be obtained during new hire orientation.
• Must pass competency exams within 90 days of hire.
• May be required to work overtime and flexible hours. Required to work every other weekend.
• Mustbe able to prioritize workload, effectivelymulti-task and problem solve in a fast paced environment. Excellent listening, communication, prioritization and follow through skills with strong focus on providing high quality patient care.

Physical Requirements

Move efficiently enough to meet the needs of several patients and/or move rapidly to provide timely intervention of patient aggression. Able to sit or walk during work shift. Able to hear spoken words in a normal vocal range, respond to signals, alarms, codes or other displays. Recognize vocal intonation that signal changes in acuity. Able to bend, reach and stoop. Must write legibly so as to accurately convey information. Able to read instructions and complete documentation and reports. Restrain, as part of a team, an aggressive patient in a safe and therapeutic manner. Able to lift, position or move patients in order to perform (orassist in) searches and procedures. Perform activities requiring manual dexterity. Able to lift 30lbs.
