Job summary

Universal Health Services is seeking a Mental Health Technician at Coral Shores Behavioral Hospital in Stuart, FL. The MHT provides continuous patient care, supervision, interaction and role modeling under the direction of a Registered Nurse to patients ranging from adolescents to geriatrics.

Shifts are 12 hours (7p-7a and 7a-7p). Requirements include a high school diploma, 1 year healthcare experience (preferred), current BLS, CPI training, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent (required).
• Experience: At least 1 year in a healthcare setting and/or behavioral health preferred.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Must complete CPI training or have completed it during orientation.
• Ability to multi-task and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous patient care, supervision, interaction and role modeling under RN supervision.
• Support unit with adolescent to geriatric patients as assigned.
• Respond to patient needs and assist in de-escalation and safety as part of the treatment team.

Coral Shores Behavioral Hospital is an 80-bed behavioral health facility located in Stuart, FL, and provides inpatient treatment for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults. Our professional staff individualizes care to uniquely fit the intensity and severity of each patient case and their family's needs. Because crisis occurs at all times of the day and night, our services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Position Summary

The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from adolescents through geriatrics depending on which unit worked. MHTs work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: At least one (1) year of previous experience in a healthcare setting and/or previous behavioral health experience strongly preferred.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Must complete and maintain training Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) (aggression management, crisis intervention and restraint training). Training may be obtained during new hire orientation.
• Must pass competency exams within 90 days of hire.
• May be required to work overtime and flexible hours. Required to work every other weekend.
• Mustbe able to prioritize workload, effectivelymulti-task and problem solve in a fast paced environment. Excellent listening, communication, prioritization and follow through skills with strong focus on providing high quality patient care.

Physical Requirements

Move efficiently enough to meet the needs of several patients and/or move rapidly to provide timely intervention of patient aggression. Able to sit or walk during work shift. Able to hear spoken words in a normal vocal range, respond to signals, alarms, codes or other displays. Recognize vocal intonation that signal changes in acuity. Able to bend, reach and stoop. Must write legibly so as to accurately convey information. Able to read instructions and complete documentation and reports. Restrain, as part of a team, an aggressive patient in a safe and therapeutic manner. Able to lift, position or move patients in order to perform (orassist in) searches and procedures. Perform activities requiring manual dexterity. Able to lift 30lbs.
