Job Summary
The Certified Medication Aide assists in administering medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the supervision of the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and RCC Services. Medications must be administered in accordance with established nursing standards, policies, procedures, and state requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Comply with the Community’s personnel, safety, and corporate policies and procedures.
- Follow nursing department’s policies and procedures.
- Report any allegations of resident abuse or neglect immediately to the appropriate authorities.
- Treat residents, family members, visitors, and team members with respect and dignity.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident and family information.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled.
- Report complaints or grievances made by residents to RCC Services or per policy.
- Participate in Community surveys or inspections as requested.
- Keep the medication cart and room clean and organized.
- Protect resident privacy when administering medication, including knocking before entering rooms.
- Prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications accurately and safely, as ordered.
- Immediately report and document errors in medication administration.
- Ensure medications are properly labeled, stored, and dated according to policy.
- Complete medication charting per community policies.
- Assist with medication destruction and documentation of discontinued medications.
- Follow procedures for medication receipt errors and holding medications for residents out of the community or per physician’s order.
- Respect residents’ rights to refuse medications and document refusals and reactions.
- Verify resident identity before medication administration.
- Follow procedures for residents self-administering medications and assist as needed.
- Notify nurse when medication refills are needed.
- Be familiar with medical abbreviations and terms related to medication administration.
- Use personal protective equipment when exposed to blood or body fluids.
- Report hazardous conditions or equipment issues immediately.
Job Requirements:
- Valid CMA certification in good standing with the State.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle if required, per company policy.
- Basic computer skills.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Availability to work beyond normal hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to assist in evacuations during emergencies.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Meet health requirements set by State regulations and company policy, including medical and physical exams.
- Use transfer/gait belts or assistance for residents lifting or carrying objects over 25 pounds.
