Job summary

Maplewood Senior Living's Inspir Embassy Row in Washington, DC seeks a Memory Care Activities Coordinator for weekend and part-time on-site work. You will design engaging activities and support residents living with memory loss, building meaningful connections with families and staff.

You will plan calendars, lead activities using music, crafts, and outings, and collaborate with the Memory Care Director to maintain a safe, welcoming environment that reflects our L.I.V.E. core values.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or qualifying experience in recreation or a related field.
• Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) or willingness to pursue certification.
• Strong communication, planning and teamwork skills.
• Passion for working with seniors and improving quality of life.

Responsibilities

• Plan fun activities, events, and outings for residents based on interests and life stories.
• Create monthly activity calendars and newsletters to keep everyone connected.
• Collaborate with Memory Care Director to support program success.
• Train team members on dementia care and promote teamwork, kindness, and respect.
• Build strong bonds with residents and families, ensuring a warm, engaging environment.

Inspire and Support Our Team

• Work closely with the Memory Care Director to help our program succeed.
• Help train team members on dementia care and ways to support residents.
• Share ideas and encourage teamwork, kindness, and respect.
• Help create a warm, safe, and welcoming place for residents and families.

Build Strong Connections

• Get to know each resident and learn what makes them feel happy and valued.
• Support residents’ daily needs while respecting their choices and personal preferences.
• Build trusting relationships with families and share updates, photos, and special moments.
• Help families feel welcome, supported, and connected to their loved ones.

Support Quality Care and Safety

• Work with the Memory Care Director and care team to support residents’ changing needs.
• Watch for changes in mood or behavior and share concerns with the team.
• Help maintain a safe and engaging environment.
• Follow Maplewood Senior Living standards and all required safety and care rules.

What You Bring

• A basic understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory loss.
• An associate degree or qualifying experience in recreation or a related field.
• Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP®) certification or a willingness to work toward certification.
• Basic computer skills and a desire to keep learning.

Weekend and holiday work may be required. The role includes physical duties, following safety procedures, and completing required background and drug screenings.
