Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, and implementing all residence activities.
  • Develop suggestions and ideas for improving and expanding the Activities Program.
  • Maintain a professional, warm, and caring relationship with residents and families.
  • Assist in arranging transportation and escorts for residents to and from outside and community activities.
  • Assist with maintaining and expanding Volunteer Programs.
  • Assist residents with maintaining and operating the residence store.
  • Assist with maintaining adequate supplies per the department budget.
  • Assist residents to and from activities.
  • Assist with monthly newsletters and/or weekly calendars.
  • Attend required ongoing in-service training sessions and orientation.
  • Drive residents in the van as needed.
  • Perform dual tasks and work independently.

Job Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Assist in developing and implementing activities.
    • Create interest and motivate residents to participate daily.
    • Possess creativity and motivational skills.
    • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
    • Frequent bending, stretching, stooping, and lifting required.
    • Work independently and perform tasks effectively.
    • Be computer literate, familiar with office software including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, and calendar/newsletter software.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience: Previous recreational therapy or related field experience preferred; gerontology experience is a plus.
  • Certificates/Licenses: Valid driver's license in the state of work with no more than two moving violations in three years.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Dexterity for handling instruments and equipment.
    • Visual and auditory acuity.
    • Ability to lift at least 15 lbs.
    • Ability to push/pull carts, walk, sit, and stand regularly.
    • Ability to crouch, kneel, stoop, bend, and reach as needed.
