Job description

Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA) is seeking a Membership Manager to join its team in New York, NY under the leadership of Eddie Torres, President & CEO. This position will report directly to the President & CEO, work closely with the Development Manager, and collaboratively with other members of the GIA team, including finance and program staff.

Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA) is the only national network of private, public and corporate arts funders in the US and Canada, including independent and family foundations, public agencies, community foundations, corporate philanthropies, nonprofit regrantors and national service organizations. GIA is widely regarded as the go-to place for relevant discussion and action within the philanthropic field. GIA seeks a Membership Manager. Working in partnership with the Development Manager and reporting to the President & CEO, the Membership Manager is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date computer and online member and donor database records, maintaining membership and funding partner files, conducting timely membership renewals, member and donor acknowledgements, and assisting with all aspects of member recruitment, retention, engagement, and acknowledgement and assisting in donor development.

Desired qualifications and experience are as follows:

• Bachelor's degree is preferred or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience nonprofit service, and/or membership organizations.
• Working knowledge of philanthropic and nonprofit arts community, preferred but not necessary
• Proficient with Civi-crm database functions, or equivalent software programs.
• Excellent administrative organizational skills.
• Creative, enthusiastic, and dependable.
• Commitment to working collaboratively with a range of constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program partners, and participants.
• High level focus on details.
• Proof of work eligibility and the ability to travel.

Responsibilities and duties

Member and donor recruitment and retention

• In partnership with the Development Manager, develops, implements, and manages member recruitment and retention initiatives
• Provides oversight of member eligibility
• Designs evaluation materials to monitor member satisfaction
• Process membership and funding partner payments

Membership and donor database

• Maintain and update computer database, ensuring database information is accurate and up-to-date at all times
• Retrieve and synthesize data and information about the membership and funding partners to assist staff and board in development work.
• Prepare monthly and annual reports for use in tracking progress and identifying membership and development opportunities, as well as reconciliation reports for Finance & Operations.

Member services

• Serve as lead contact with GIA members regarding membership and member benefits.
• Manage data gathering and export up-to-date, accurate data in order to produce annual member directory in print and online.
• With Development Manager, coordinate new member reception and mentorships during GIA’s annual conference.

Other

• Assist in the development of the conference registration database and follow up on all financial transactions.
• Facilitate board logistics for convenings as determined by President & CEO.
• Other duties as determined by the President & CEO in consultation with the Deputy Director/Director of Programs.

Grantmakers in the Arts uses a Drupal platform website, Civi-crm database, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office 365 and QuickBooks.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) non-exempt position with some after-hours, weekend work, and travel required. Compensation: Salary range: $55,000-$65,000 dependent on experience. A comprehensive benefits package includes leave time, insurance, and an employer-matching 401(k) plan.
