The overall responsibility for the Membership Manager is planning and implementing marketing strategies to increase member sales, and membership products and benefits. In addition, responsible for developing strategic partnerships to increase membership growth and engagement.
This position has the following key areas: acquisition and renewal/retention program, member newsletter, Optica online store, maintenance of department files and records, and maintaining up-to-date content on the website, along with customer service activities.
Membership Acquisitions & Retention/Renewal Program
- Develop and implement a comprehensive membership acquisition and retention strategy to recruit new members to Optica and retain existing members.
- Achieve member revenue goals averaging $2.0M.
- Identify high-value sales territories, channels, and prospects to meet membership and revenue targets in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Present, promote, and sell products/services/memberships to existing and prospective customers using solid sales techniques.
- Manage membership mailings, emails, e-newsletters, cold calling, and other communications, including the management of monthly mailing to new individual members.
- Monitor automated renewal campaigns (e.g., 90 days, 60 days, 30 days, and 0 days), analyze Litmus Reports with open and click rates, and conduct A/B testing.
- Oversee member onboarding and surveys, analyze data, and provide recommendations.
- Manage journal subscription renewal emails to monthly and yearly members.
- Partner with fulfillment centers for distribution of member kits.
- Responsible for monthly reporting, member dashboard updates, and website content updates.
- Collaborate with the Customer Service team on member inquiries and renewals.
- Work with the research team to deepen member value and engagement.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required, with coursework or experience in design.
- 3-5 years of experience in prospect development, management, member acquisition, retention, and engagement.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in graphic design, specifically in magazine production.
- Understanding of best practices in traditional and digital marketing, including lead generation.
- Knowledge of four-color printing required.

- Experience managing email and direct mail marketing campaigns for membership sales.
