Position Summary
The Membership & Development Manager is responsible for driving the growth and sustainability of the Kennebec Valley Chamber through membership recruitment and retention, sponsorship development, strategic partnerships, and member engagement. This position serves as one of the Chamber’s primary relationship builders and revenue generators, working closely with the President & CEO to advance the Chamber’s mission, increase member value, and strengthen the regional business community.
Membership Growth
- Develop and execute annual membership recruitment strategies and meet established membership growth goals.
- Conduct prospect visits, presentations, and networking activities to recruit new members.
- Build relationships with businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders throughout the region.
Member Retention & Engagement
- Develop proactive retention strategies and conduct regular member outreach.
- Educate members on Chamber benefits, marketing opportunities, networking programs, and events.
- Coordinate New Member Orientations, Membership Refreshers, and assist with Ribbon Cuttings.
- Ensure an outstanding member experience from onboarding through renewal.
Sponsorship & Revenue Development
- Develop sponsorship strategies for Chamber events, programs, publications, and initiatives.
- Secure sponsorships, advertising sales, and partnership revenue while meeting annual budget goals.
- Prepare sponsorship proposals and cultivate long-term sponsor relationships.
Member Services & Events
- Attend Chamber events and actively engage members, sponsors, and prospective members.
- Represent the Chamber on committees and community initiatives as assigned.
- Provide general office and event support as needed.
Database & Administration
- Maintain accurate membership records within the Chamber CRM and related systems.
- Manage member information across the website, email marketing platform, and internal systems.
- Generate reports on membership, sponsorship, renewals, and engagement.
Strategic Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Manager to promote members and sponsorship opportunities.
- Assist the President & CEO with Board meetings, strategic initiatives, budgeting, and annual planning.
- Track and report progress toward membership and sponsorship goals.
General Expectations
- Serve as a positive ambassador for the Chamber and its members.
- Maintain professional relationships with members, partners, and the community.
- Exercise sound judgment, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Work collaboratively as part of the Chamber team.
- Be flexible with occasional evening and weekend events.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Qualifications
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in sales, business development, fundraising, membership organizations, nonprofit management, or relationship management.
- Demonstrated success meeting sales, fundraising, or revenue goals.
- Experience securing sponsorships and cultivating business relationships preferred.
- Experience with CRM/database management and Microsoft Office.
- Strong presentation, networking, and customer service skills.
Education
Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position primarily works in an office environment with regular travel throughout the Kennebec Valley for member visits and community meetings. The position requires occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and attendance at evening and weekend Chamber events.
