Job summary

AIC is seeking an on-site software and infrastructure engineer to embed with design partners and manufacturers. You will own the on-prem and cloud AIC OS stack, manage edge devices, and coordinate with HQ to deliver repeatable deployments across partner sites.

You are comfortable with Linux, Docker, CI/CD, and security-conscious operations, and you bring a hands-on mindset to build trusted, data-driven systems in a manufacturing context.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering in a fast and collaborative production environment.
• Experience running production infrastructure: Linux, Docker, CI/CD, networking, infrastructure as code, and observability.
• Strong communication/stakeholder management skills.
• Knowledge and intuition for designing and implementing data intensive applications and the systems they run on.
• Depth in cloud/on-prem deployment, zero-trust access/identity, secrets management, or OT/security topics a plus.
• Hard-tech, robotics, and manufacturing background a plus.
• Experience with OT networks, shop-floor equipment, or compliance frameworks like NIST 800-171 and CMMC a plus.

*Please note this is an onsite role. It will be based out of our Brooklyn Navy Yard HQ or El Segundo office 5x a week.

What you'll do:

• Embed on-site with design partners and manufacturers for meaningful stretches of the year — their floor is your second office.

• Build trust across the full vertical, from the GM to the technician running the station. Software and hardware deployed without this trust doesn't get adopted.

• Develop genuine understanding of how each partner's shop works and why — the history, constraints, people, and physics of what moves through it.

• Translate unstructured observation into concrete requirements, then build, ship, and maintain the software yourself and through the other technical staff you coordinate on-site and at HQ.

• Stand up each newly acquired manufacturer: plant connectivity, edge hardware, access provisioning, monitoring, and the playbooks to ensure it is all repeatable.

• Own the infrastructure AIC OS runs on, end to end: on-premises and cloud environments, CI/CD, per-partner build and release pipelines, networking, identity and access, secrets, observability, and the edge devices sitting next to machines on the shop floor.

• Treat compliance as an engineering problem. Hardened environments, audit logging, and access controls are built into AIC OS, not bolted on.

• Write production code across the full stack — data model, ETL, backend, frontend, algorithms, hardware integrations, ML pipelines, analyses, and infrastructure. Everyone wears all the hats at various points in time.

• Run the process-engineering side of deployment — sequencing software changes with operational changes so the two evolve in lockstep, including the cultural work: training, change management, work instructions, quiet one-on-ones with skeptics.

• Own outcomes, not deliverables. Success is measured in operational maturity and financial outcomes gained by the partner, not features shipped.

Who you are:

• 2+ years of experience in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering in a fast and collaborative production environment

• Experience running production infrastructure: Linux, Docker, CI/CD, networking, infrastructure as code, and observability

• Strong communication/stakeholder management skills

• Knowledge and intuition for designing and implementing data intensive applications and the systems they run on

• Depth in some of: cloud and on-prem deployment, zero-trust access and identity, secrets management, PostgreSQL operations, edge device fleets, incident response, or security engineering

• Hard-tech, robotics, and manufacturing background is a big plus

• Experience with OT networks, shop-floor equipment, or compliance frameworks like NIST 800-171 and CMMC is a big plus
