Member of Technical Staff - Data Engineer

Microsoft is expanding its AI capabilities and seeks passionate individuals to work on cutting-edge AI challenges. Our goal is to develop systems with true artificial intelligence across various platforms, ensuring AI accessibility for all, including consumers, businesses, and developers.

Microsoft AI (MS AI) is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to contribute to the development of our personal AI, Copilot. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, a systematic approach to problem-solving, expertise in data technologies, and experience in designing durable solutions. The Data Engineering team builds data platforms that support Copilot's core functionalities, collaborating closely with Product Management, Design, and AI Research teams.

This role is based in New York, NY; Mountain View, CA; or Redmond, WA, with a requirement to be local and in-office 3 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Build secure, high-performance AI platform services powering Copilot.
  • Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, application engineers, and AI researchers to develop next-generation AI products.
  • Develop high-quality, secure, and maintainable code.
  • Navigate obstacles to deliver features quickly and iteratively.
  • Work in a fast-paced, design-driven environment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, or related field, with 4+ years in analytics, data science, software development, or data engineering, or
  • Master's Degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or
  • Equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years' experience building scalable cloud services (Azure, AWS, GCP) with various data stores.
  • At least 2 years' experience with large-scale data warehouses, including data governance and historical data management.

Preferred:

  • Experience with data platforms, APIs, and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Commitment to clean, well-documented, secure code.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Passion for learning emerging technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
