Job summary

Orion Casting in New Hampshire is seeking a Melt Operator to support daily production, loading and melting materials, and maintaining a safe, clean 5S-compliant work area. You will set up furnaces, load/unload materials, sample products for lab analysis, operate material handling equipment, document production data, and help ensure products meet quality standards while following ISO/TS procedures.

Be prepared to work with lifting and repetitive tasks in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High School/GED/ or equivalent.
• Ability to move between machines as needed.
• Knowledge of molds and casting process theory.

Responsibilities

• Tap furnaces as directed by the supervisor.
• Set up and operate the furnace for melting.
• Load and unload materials and record units moved daily.
• Clean furnace and equipment.
• Count, weigh and record units on production sheet.
• Take samples for laboratory analysis and label them.
• Operate industrial truck or hoist to move materials.
• Skim sows and ingots to meet quality standards.
• Prepare product for shipping and stack/band as needed.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair furnaces.
• Maintain a clean, 5S compliant work area.
• Complete paperwork including attendance and maintenance orders.
• Follow Quality Policy, ISO/TS procedures, Continuous Quality.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

This job includes but is not limited to the following:

• Tap furnaces as directed by the supervisor
• Set up and operate the furnace for melting
• Ability to load and unload the materials
• Clean furnace and equipment
• Count, weigh and record number of units of materials moved on daily production sheet
• Remove samples of materials, label them with identifying information and take samples for laboratory analysis
• Operate industrial truck or electrical hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and product
• Skim sows and ingots, paying great attention to detail to ensure products meet or exceed quality standards
• Responsible for stacking, banding and prepping of product for shipping
• Ability to diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair of furnaces.
• Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition ensuring strict adherence to 5S standards
• Responsible to accurately and timely complete all necessary paperwork, such as, attendance reporting, corrective actions, preventative maintenance work orders, etc
• Comply with established QMS procedures
• Follow the requirements of the Quality Policy, ISO/TS system, and procedures and participate in the Continuous Quality process
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and report any unsafe conditions in a timely manner
• Must follow all safety rules and policies as set forth by OSHA guidelines and Pace Industries, including wearing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Perform other associated duties, functions or work as may be needed or assigned to continue the

productive operation of the company.

Physical Demands

• Must be capable of lifting 50lbs, reach and lift moderately heavy parts – up to several hundred repetitions per shift
• Ability to stand on one’s feet, bend, and / or twist a minimum of 8 hours per day
• Must be able to ascend / descend stairs
• Must be able to sit, walk, climb, stoop and kneel
