Job summary

Smith+Nephew in Massachusetts is offering a Mechanical Engineering Intern position within the Sports Medicine R&D group. The 12‑week program provides hands‑on experience in arthroscopic tissue repair, CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, and documentation.

You will work with engineers and cross‑functional partners to develop products and learn design controls in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in an accredited undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
• GPA 3.0+ preferred; strong academic standing.
• Experience with medical device or regulated environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical engineering projects focused on arthroscopic tissue repair with guidance from senior engineers.
• Assist concept development and product design using 3D CAD modeling, prototyping, and fixture design.
• Support verification/validation, data collection, and report development for project team.
• Create design controls documentation per Smith+Nep procedures and QMS.
• Gain exposure to FEA, stats, biomechanics testing, and manufacturing operations.
• Present outcomes and lessons learned at internship end.
