Job summary

CMC in Mesa, AZ is seeking a skilled electrical technician to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve industrial power systems at a steel facility. You will diagnose power irregularities, install and monitor control equipment, and lead annual testing to ensure reliability.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; trade program preferred.
  • Experience with electrical/industrial maintenance and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot all aspects of medium/high voltage equipment in an industrial facility.
  • Diagnose power irregularities and substation problems to restore reliability.
  • Install, monitor, and repair electrical control systems and motors.
  • Lead annual testing and inspection requirements for the facility.
  • Maintain manuals, drawings, and maintenance logs; document work.

What You’ll Do
  • Ability to troubleshoot all aspects of Medium/High Voltage equipment for an industrial steel production facility
  • Diagnose and remedy complex problems related to incoming power irregularities and substation problems
  • Install, monitor, inspect, troubleshoot, and ensure reliability of all electrical, electronic control systems and components, process equipment, and AC/DC utilities
  • Lead facility's annual testing and inspection requirements
  • Learn and maintain the variety of electromechanical starters and motors using sophisticated electronic interface boards, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and controllers
  • Procure supplies and spare parts to ensure effective and timely maintenance of equipment
  • Diagnose and remedy complex problems related to transformer protection relays, complex faults and trips in all protective systems
  • Assist in developing other team members’ skills and knowledge
  • Serve as Shift Supervisor in their absence and provide supervisory support, as necessary
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair or replacement of defective and damaged parts
  • Maintain and revise instruction manuals, drawings, schematics, maintenance logs, and other documentation, as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What You’ll Need
  • Minimum 2 years electrical maintenance experience preferred
  • CMMS experience preferred
  • PLC troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in grounding systems and maintenance
  • Electrical and mechanical maintenance, hydraulics and pneumatics, and arc flash safety
  • Predictive maintenance technology, furnace grounding systems and testing, induced harmonics and related mitigation technology
  • Electrical relay control maintenance and repair proficiency, especially for cranes
  • Maintenance of electrical control and distribution systems and analog and digital circuits
  • Relay and ladder logic, industrial communications networks, instrumentation and automation control systems
  • Formal education or lab training on PLCs, ability to navigate block logic, ladder logic, or other digital logic interfaces
  • Experience with MRO system, SAP system preferred
  • Manufacturing equipment processes and working knowledge of associated controls
  • Instrument and sensor calibration training and/or experience
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic circuit components
  • Competence with hand tools and electrical/electronic test equipment
  • Experience in a heavy industrial environment (preferred but not required)
  • Industrial electrical repairs including troubleshooting and repair of electrical valves and switches
  • Industrial electrical repairs including troubleshooting and repair of AC/DC drives and motors, PLCs and 480‑Volt 3‑phase electrical systems
  • Specific knowledge of both hydraulic and electrical systems and equipment
  • Ability to read technical documents and manuals and write job instructional training documents
  • Effective teamwork and constructive, positive communication skills
  • Practice safe working habits and follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies, rules, and regulations
  • Physical capability to push and pull up to 90 lbs, carry 50 lbs, and climb ladders and steps
  • Ability to work overtime, cross‑train as required, and work outside under all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold temperatures
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Graduate of an instrumentation, electronics or mechatronics program from a recognized trade school preferred
