Colonial Group is seeking a skilled Medium Voltage Splicer in San Diego to perform high-quality splicing, terminating, and testing of underground MV distribution systems (5kV to 35kV). The role emphasizes safety, precision, and reliability, with travel outside San Diego as needed.

The ideal candidate brings 3+ years in MV cable splicing and a recognized electrical apprenticeship. Proficiency with PILC, EPR, and XLPE cables and knowledge of OSHA/NFPA 70E standards are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in medium voltage cable splicing, terminations, and testing.
• Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent field experience.
• Proficiency in splicing techniques for PILC, EPR, and XLPE cables.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and utility safety standards.
• NCSCB and/or NECA MV splicer certifications preferred but not required.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, trenches, and elevated environments.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel outside of San Diego as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform splicing, terminating, and T-body installations on medium voltage cables using heat shrink, cold shrink, and molded technologies.
• Collaborate with foremen and project managers to plan and execute work safely and efficiently.
• Maintain accurate documentation of splicing activities and materials used.
• Ensure proper grounding and bonding of electrical systems.
• Adhere to all safety protocols including lockout/tagout, PPE usage, and confined space procedures.
• Participate in job site safety meetings and contribute to a culture of safety and accountability.
• Train and mentor apprentices or junior splicers as needed.

This role requires expertise in MV cable systems, switching operations, and diagnostic testing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, precision, and reliability, and be willing to travel outside of San Diego as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform splicing, terminating, and T-body installations on medium voltage cables using heat shrink, cold shrink, and molded technologies
