As a Medicolegal Death Investigator, you'll have the opportunity to use your medical and investigative knowledge to support the 4th largest Medical Examiner jurisdiction in the Nation! The Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner is seeking a motivated, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented Medicolegal Death Investigator to join our team! You'll contribute as the “eyes and ears” for Medical Examiners on scene, and work to locate pertinent details and medical records relating to reported deaths in Maricopa County, and assist in the collection of evidence.
About the Office of the Medical ExaminerJoin a team dedicated to providing reliable and trustworthy death investigations in our community! The Office of the Medical Examiner is a county agency charged under Arizona law to perform medical investigations of certain types of deaths. The goal of these investigations is to determine the medical cause and manner of death to help improve public health and safety. We are looking for individuals to join our collaborative team to help the people of Maricopa County.

Sufficient strength and physical and emotional stability to work under adverse conditions. Hours are full-time and include some holidays, nights, and weekends. Shift work may be required. Must work with decedents in a decomposed state and understand and perform the complex task of removing decedents from diverse and difficult death scenes. Must be able to lift and carry 100 pounds.
SELECTION PROCEDUREThe Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources.
All offers of employment made to new hires and rehires at Maricopa County are contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment thorough background investigation. A background investigation is conducted on a current employee who changes to a Safety Sensitive Position or one having the potential for serious adverse impact on the integrity or efficiency of the County. These requirements do not pertain to employees of elected officials who undergo background investigation processes administered through their respective offices.
Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on relevant experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
