Elderwood is in growth mode and currently looking for a Medication Technician to join our team! We are seeking candidates with HHA or CNA certifications only.

Medication Technician Position Overview:

Medication Technician team members assist in ensuring the health and well-being of residents by providing personal care to meet their physical and emotional needs. They also assist residents with self-administration of medication (excluding injectable medications).

Responsibilities

Medication Technician Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with the safe and proper administration of medication to residents.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by a physician, following the five rights.
  • Manage storage and distribution of controlled substances, ensuring proper labeling and placement.
  • Respond promptly to resident requests.
  • Document all activities accurately according to standards (e-interact, change in condition, transfer, STOP and WATCH).
  • Report any unusual symptoms or changes to the Director of Nursing or a licensed professional.
  • Contact MD/NP/PA for orders or updates and inform residents' representatives or emergency contacts.
  • Transfer residents for evaluations when indicated.
  • Participate in Change-of-Shift Reports, updating the next shift about residents' care and needs.
  • Follow safety rules and standards of practice to ensure safety of staff, residents, and visitors.
  • Implement emergency procedures effectively.
  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, eating, exercise, housekeeping, meal prep, and supervision of medical supplies/equipment.
  • Notify supervisors of changes in residents' conditions or needs.
  • Follow care plans and document duties performed.
  • Maintain resident rights and confidentiality.
  • Participate in training, meetings, and in-service programs.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Show genuine concern, dependability, patience, and respect towards residents.
  • Complete Resident Care Assistant (RCA) training within 21 days of start, scoring 80% or higher.
  • Use electronic timekeeping systems and adhere to dress code and policies.
  • Support Elderwood's Mission, Vision, and Values, and abide by policies and HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Educational Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Completion of a medication technician training program within the last 12 months preferred.
  • Pass Elderwood Medication Technician test.
  • Certification in home health aide services preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Long-term care experience preferred.

*In a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), a CNA or LNA is required.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to assist with and operate a wheelchair.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and customer service skills.
  • Empathy and teamwork willingness.

Regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors is required. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at an intermediate or higher level is necessary for a safe work environment.
