Purpose
To perform non-professional direct patient care duties under the supervision of nursing personnel and to assist in maintaining a positive physical, social, emotional, and spiritual environment for the residents.
Essential Functions
Job Functions
- Assist residents with medications as ordered by their physician(s).
- Document all functions related to medication management as required by regulation and community protocols.
- Obtain, receive, and store medications from pharmacy.
- Participate in medication training and demonstrate competency.
- Maintain order and cleanliness in medication storage areas.
- Assist residents with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, dental care, and preparing for activities.
- Record vital signs, weight, and other measurements; observe and report changes in resident conditions; and document all necessary entries.
- Prepare residents for meals, assist with after-meal care, and ensure proper resident hygiene and comfort.
- Maintain resident confidentiality, treat residents with dignity and respect, and report complaints or incidents promptly.
- Assist with resident admissions, transfers, discharges, and report defective equipment.
- Follow safety protocols, infection control procedures, and proper sanitation practices; record resident restraints appropriately.
- Participate in orientation, training, staff meetings, and other educational activities.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Completion of a certification training program.
- Previous experience with geriatric nursing is preferred.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and resident care procedures.
- Understanding of aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Good physical and mental health; neat, clean, and responsible appearance.
- Patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude toward elderly care.
- Ability to lift and move articles over 25 pounds; capable of squatting, reaching, and standing for extended periods.
