Job summary

Viva Senior Living is seeking a Medication Technician to support the Resident Care department. You will be responsible for accurate medication distribution, documentation, and collaboration with the Wellness Director and care team.

The role includes assisting with activities of daily living, dining, and maintaining a safe living environment for residents. The position requires adherence to physician orders, regulations, and the community’s care plans.

Position Summary
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely distribution and documentation of medication for residents in accordance with each resident’s physician’s orders and applicable regulations.
  • Assist residents in maintaining their total wellbeing by following the established Plan of Care, providing assistance with activities of daily living, social activities, dietary assistance, and Viva Senior Living’s philosophies.
  • Supervise and care for residents on a daily basis according to residents’ needs.
  • Provide assistance with bathing, shower, shampoo, dressing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair and fingernail care as needed.
  • Observe, supervise, and record resident self‑administration of prescribed medications.
  • Report refusals and/or reactions to supervisor on duty.
  • Direct residents and family members to appropriate staff for other needs or information.
  • Order meal trays for residents when needed.
  • Record observations of changes in residents’ condition in the daily logbook and transfer relevant information to the next shift through a shift‑to‑shift verbal report.
  • Implement personal care plans for each resident.
  • Communicate patiently and clearly with staff, residents, and visitors; refer families to director or supervisor regarding status of residents when unsure of status.
  • Provide assistance in dining room as needed.
  • Administer medication as directed by supervisor.
  • Answer emergency calls promptly and courteously, completing required paperwork afterward.
  • Retrieve soiled linen and personal clothing from resident living areas; sort and pre‑soak linens as required before washing.
  • Maintain general upkeep and cleanliness of a resident’s room, including emptying waste baskets, wiping spills, washing dishes, putting away clothes, checking refrigerator for spoiled food, making beds, and changing linens.
  • Check for unsecured throw rugs and extension cords.
  • Observe condition of room/apartment and report anything needing repair to maintenance.
  • Document clearly and objectively in resident logbooks and other required documents.
  • Participate in in‑service educational programs as required by the community and state.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
  • Must provide medical and physical examination clear to work.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately to ensure the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residents.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
