Requirements

Must meet the requirements of the Supervisor-In-Charge, as well as, meet the training and testing requirements as outlined by the state regulatory guidelines. Also, must complete required continuing education units annually.

Walking and hearing are required 75% or more per shift. Far vision, near vision, and low to medium levels of lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling are required about 50% per shift. Standing, talking, medium levels of carrying, pushing/pulling are required about 25% per shift. Sitting, crouching, climbing (ascending or descending), bending/twisting, reaching, very high levels of lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling are required about 10% per shift. Stooping, running, grappling, balancing, feeling, high levels of lifting, pushing/pulling, and fingering are present only in unusual situations. The required lift for this job classification is 50 lbs.

Description

  1. Assume all written and delegated assignments of the Administrator and/or Resident Care Coordinator.
  1. Provide direction and assignments to other patient care assistants.
  1. Prepare resident transfer forms and documents as required for hospital or other service providers.
  1. Complete accident/incidents reports as necessary.
  1. Ensure staff coverage on the hall at all times, and that all employees receive adequate breaks during their shift.
  1. Discipline, counsel, and document violations of policies and procedures by staff.
  1. Enforce all facility rules and regulations for staff and residents, and assist in making sure that resident rights are acknowledged by all staff members.
  1. Handle employee grievances with tact, courtesy, and consideration.
  1. Perform medication administration in a timely and structured manner, ensuring proper handling of all medications.
  1. Perform narcotic counts per facility policy and in accordance with state regulations.
  1. Respect the resident’s right to privacy and autonomy during med passes.
  1. Supervise residents approved for self-administration of medications and ensure proper administration techniques.
  1. Notify Resident Care Coordinator and/or Administrator of significant changes in residents and document these changes appropriately.
  1. Seek treatment for residents experiencing acute episodes of illness or those in need of emergency services.
  1. Communicate with Resident Care Coordinator, Administrator, and/or the facility pharmacy to ensure all resident medications are available and appropriate for administration.
  1. Dispose of discontinued or refused medications properly and document the disposal.
  1. Maintain a current certification by obtaining the required annual CEUs.
