Job summary

Gentle Touch Health Initiatives is seeking a responsible Medication Assistant to administer medications to residents in a safe, organized manner and document actions accurately. The role involves coordinating with the nurse, completing required training, and adhering to state requirements for medication assistants.

The position requires strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a long-term care or assisted living setting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare medication with Right Drug, Right time, Right route, Right resident, Right dosage.
• Document legibly all resident concerns during administration.
• Complete resident treatments as outlined in the Treatment Administration Record.
• Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of medication cart.
• Restock medication cart after passes are completed.
• Be accountable for medication errors and report immediately.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and required training.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Objective(s)

This position is responsible for the administration of medication in a safe organized manner. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, administration of medications and documentation of medication administration. The medication assistant completes required training, communicates with the case manager (nurse) and becomes knowledgeable in the state requirements for medication assistants.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

• Administer medications to residents using the Medication Administration Record (MAR) as a guide.
• Prepare medication for each resident's medication administration with the following: Right Drug, Right time, Right route, Right resident, Right dosage
• Ensure confidentiality of resident medication among other residents, staff and families.
• Document legibly all resident concerns made while administering the medication.
• Complete resident treatments as outlined in the Treatment Administration Record.
• Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of medication cart.
• Restock medication cart with cups and spoons after all medication passes are completed.
• Be accountable for medication errors and report immediately.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and other scheduled training sessions required by your supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

• Registration as a Trained Medication Assistant (TMA) preferred.
• Minimum six month experience in long term care or assisted living residence.

Working Hours

The work schedule and hours may vary from week to week. The RA will be required to work weekends and holidays and may be required to work beyond the normal schedule.
