Job summary

Great Lakes Management Company is seeking a Medication Assistant to administer medications to residents and document administration. You will ensure accuracy with MAR, maintain confidentiality, and participate in ongoing training.

The role requires organizational skills and teamwork in a long-term care setting. Qualified candidates will have experience in long-term care, good English communication, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy environment.

Qualifications

• Registration as a Trained Medication Assistant (TMA) preferred.
• Minimum six months experience in long-term care or assisted living.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to prioritize, and organize work effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications using MAR as a guide.
• Prepare medications with right drug, time, route, resident and dosage.
• Ensure confidentiality of resident medication among staff and families.
• Document all resident concerns during administration.
• Maintain and restock the medication cart; attend trainings.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and other scheduled training.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Objective(s)

This position is responsible for the administration of medication in a safe organized manner. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, administration of medications and documentation of medication administration. The medication assistant completes required training, communicates with the case manager (nurse) and becomes knowledgeable in the state requirements for medication assistants.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

• Administer medications to residents using the Medication Administration Record (MAR) as a guide.
• Prepare medication for each resident's medication administration with the following:
  • Right Drug
  • Right time
  • Right route
  • Right resident
  • Right dosage
• Ensure confidentiality of resident medication among other residents, staff and families.
• Document legibly all resident concerns made while administering the medication.
• Complete resident treatments as outlined in the Treatment Administration Record.
• Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of medication cart.
• Restock medication cart with cups and spoons after all medication passes are completed.
• Be accountable for medication errors and report immediately.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and other scheduled training sessions required by your supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Environment

The work environment consists of the entire facility including resident's rooms. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to minimal.

• Inside work while assisting residents.
• Exposure to body fluids, infection, odors, and behaviors that may be aggressive, combative or demanding.
• Minimum exposure to Blood borne Pathogens.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals.

Working Hours

The work schedule and hours may vary from week to week. The RA will be required to work weekends and holidays and may be required to work beyond the normal schedule.
