Job Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Licensed/Registered Nurse, the Medication Aide assists with patient care throughout nursing areas. Responsibilities include collecting blood samples and other specimens, administering medication, transporting patients, and EKG monitoring. The Medication Aide may also serve as a patient observer/sitter and provide clerical support for the patient care unit, aligning with hospital policies, mission, and nursing philosophy.

Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Work Experience

Minimum of one year experience as a medication aide; two years preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

Current certification as a Medication Aide through the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic clinical skills for direct patient care.
  • Proficiency with data entry and computer skills.
  • Competent in EKG monitoring and venipunctures.
  • Ability to administer medication, report changes, and record dosages accurately.
