Overview
The Medication Aide administers medications to residents in a safe and efficient manner, excluding intramuscular, intradermal, intravenous, and medications given via nasogastric or gastric tubes. The role includes performing assigned treatments, documenting, charting, and reporting observations per guidelines, regulations, and facility policies. The Medication Aide also assists residents with activities of daily living and maintains the resident's environment, including laundry and housekeeping. Sensitivity to residents’ needs and a commitment to enrichment of their lives are essential.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice, and individuality of residents
- Adhere to HIPAA privacy policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of all information pertaining to clients, families, and employees
- Completes necessary care documentation (written and/or electronic) timely and accurately
- Help residents with all personal care functions as needed
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times
- Dispenses medications under the direction of a licensed nurse according to established procedures
- Supervises the residents' medications under the direction of the service plan according to established procedures and regulations
- Ensures required documentation is complete and in compliance with regulations and standards
- Redirection, monitoring, and observation that are integral parts of a personal care plan
- Redirection and intervention for behavior, including observation and monitoring
- Incidental household services that are an integral part of a personal care plan
- Observe, report, and document observations and care performed
Qualifications & Physical Requirements
- Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate professional judgments
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Able to provide covered care services according to the client’s care plan and report changes in condition to the licensed supervising Resident Care Director
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs; movements such as stooping, crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching may be required
- Majority of workday standing and walking; occasional sitting
- Moderate noise and distractions in the work environment
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision
- Ability to operate a motorized vehicle and have reliable transportation for work in the community
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Must be at least 18 years old
- At least six months experience in an assisted living community preferred
- United States Citizenship or evidence of a valid Alien Work Permit
- Certified as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in this state
- Certified as Registered Medication Aide in this state
