Job summary

Aria Nursing & Rehab in Michigan is seeking a Medication Aide to safely and accurately administer routine medications to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The role emphasizes timely delivery, documentation, and adherence to state regulations and facility policies.

You will verify resident identity, review orders, follow medication rights and infection prevention standards, monitor for adverse reactions, and report changes to the RN Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Michigan Board of Nursing approved Medication Aide training program.
  • Current Michigan Certified/State Tested Nurse Assistant certification.
  • Current CPR certification or CPR certification within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as directed, excluding certain restricted items.
  • Verify the identity of the resident before administering medication or treatment.
  • Review medication records for accuracy and adherence to physician orders and stop policies.
  • Follow the rights of medication administration and infection prevention standards.
  • Verify orders with the RN Supervisor and address discrepancies promptly.
  • Record all administrations accurately in the clinical record and report changes.

The Medication Aide is responsible for the safe and accurate administration of routine medications to residents under the supervision and delegation of a registered professional licensed nurse, in accordance with Michigan state regulations (Michigan Public Health Code Part 219, Section 333.2190-333.2195), facility policies, and physician orders. This role supports resident-centered care by ensuring timely medication delivery, monitoring for adverse reactions, and maintaining accurate documentation while adhering strictly to the defined scope of practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions of this position include the following.This list is not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive. There may beadditionalessential functions based on the unique nature of the position or environment.

  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments except controlled medications, oxygen, injections, intravenously, parenteral or through any jejunostomy, gastrostomy, nasogastric or oral gastric tube, noinitialdose or PRN medication as ordered by the physician andin accordance withstate and federal regulations.
  • In Michigan, a certified medication aide shall administrator prescription and OTC medications as approved only at the delegation of the registered nurse this includes oral, inhaled, topical, medications such as nasal spray or as drops or ointments to residents’ eye, ear or nose, rectal and vaginal medications.
  • Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication/treatment.
  • Review medication records for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician's order, and adherence to stop order policies.
  • Follow the rights of medication administration and infection prevention standards
  • Verify physician orders prior to medication administration and clarify discrepancies with the RN Supervisor.
  • Measure, prepare, and administer medications accurately and safely.
  • Observe residents for side effects, adverse reactions, or medication errors, and report concernsimmediatelyto the RN Supervisor.
  • Ensure medications are stored, handled, and disposed of in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensureaccurateandtimelydocumentation in the clinical record, administration of medication or refusals by patient
  • Report all discrepancies noted concerning physician orders, diet change, charting error, etc., to the RN supervisor.
  • Give/receive the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours.
  • Notify the RN Supervisor when the resident is involved in anaccident/incidentor change in condition.
  • Review the residents’ chart for specific treatments, medication orders, diets, etc., as necessary.
  • Take and record vital signs (T, P, R, BP, FSBS) etc., as necessary.
  • Monitor residents and report deterioration to RN Supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulationsregardingmedication administration.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to Michigan scope of practice requirements for Medication Aides and facility policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience:
  • Must be, at least 18 years of age, or older
  • High school diploma or GEDrequired
  • Completion of aMichiganBoard of Nursing approved Medication Aide training program
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • CurrentMichiganCertified/State Tested Nurse Assistant certification
  • Mustpossessa state certified medication aide certification in the stateofMichigan.
  • Current CPR certification or CPR certification within90 daysof employment.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Computer skills arerequired.
  • Meets all state and federal criminal background check requirements.
