Job description

Our Medical Writers provide research and writing support to assigned brand teams and new business efforts. They work closely with our Medical Directors, providing de novo writing support and/or repurposing technically high-level projects. Projects include abstracts, scientific posters, oral presentations, outlines, primary and review articles for professional journals, detailed slide decks, infographics, web-based and social media materials, meeting reports, strategic communications platforms and gaps analyses, graphical/video abstracts, plain language summaries, and other materials requiring sound clinical judgment and excellent writing skills. Our Medical Writers interact daily with internal teams and have direct interactions with clients and therapeutic area experts. Medical Writers receive training and mentoring during their first year to facilitate onboarding and build on their existing medical communications experience.

  • Providing research and writing support on the projects listed above to assigned brand teams and in support of new business efforts
  • Developing high-quality written materials that are scientifically accurate, fully referenced and annotated, appropriate to the target audience, and that meet the authors' communication objectives, client specifications, and industry guidelines
  • Developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge in relevant therapy areas, including disease state, treatment guidelines, drug mechanisms of action, product efficacy and safety profile, and competitive landscape
  • Consulting with creative, medical, and varying internal teams to conceptualize and develop images, diagrams, animations, or interactive assets for assigned projects and/or new business pitches
  • Incorporating feedback and revisions and addressing reviewer questions/comments
  • Applying feedback from Medical Director, writing mentor, and authors within and across projects
  • Working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes a medical director, editor, graphic designers, and account personnel to accomplish project goals
  • Understanding team/company expectations in terms of budgeted hours and deadlines, and communicating with team regarding these as needed
  • Interacting with key experts to solicit their input, facilitate alignment, resolve queries, and make constructive suggestions about content
  • Attending meetings as required, including internal kick-off meetings, status meetings, client/author calls; most meetings are virtual but occasional on-site attendance at congresses, advisory board meetings, symposia, client meetings, or other meetings may be required
  • Following standard operating procedures (SOPs), including annotating and updating of project files, routing, and version-control conventions

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Aptitude for the English language, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong ability to communicate complex scientific ideas in a clear, concise, accurate, and innovative way
  • Openness to accept constructive feedback from the medical director, writing mentor, authors, and clients and implement it across your projects
  • Desire to learn and grow by planting roots with a company that supports your ongoing growth and development through 1:1 mentoring and extensive training, and that offers opportunities for continued advancement as either a writer or medical director
  • Ability to independently interpret scientific statistics, clinical trial documents, and other primary data source materials, as well as published medical literature
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and estimate time needed to write standard projects
  • Willingness and ability to work both independently and in a team structure
