Primary Purpose

Responsible for basic specimen processing and testing to assist physicians in the diagnosis of patients.

Minimum Specifications
Education
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience
  • None
Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Must be certified by one of the following or be certification eligible with certification obtained within 6 months of hire:
  • Medical Technologist (MT) - ASCP
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - ASCP
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) - NCA
  • Medical Technologist (MT) - AMT
  • Technologist, Blood Banking (BB) - ASCP
  • Technologist, Chemistry (C) - ASCP
  • Technologist, Hematology (H) - ASCP
  • Technologist, Microbiology (M) - ASCP
  • Technologist, Molecular Biology (MB) - ASCP
Skills or Special Abilities
  • Ability to follow all laboratory procedures.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Identify and address problems affecting test results.
  • Maintain accurate records, follow instructions, and communicate effectively.
  • Use laboratory and hospital computer systems within three months of employment.
Responsibilities
  1. Receive specimens, assess integrity, verify labeling and documentation, and enter data for billing.
  2. Perform specimen processing, reagent preparation, testing, and report results.
  3. Conduct quality control tasks, maintain documentation, and troubleshoot equipment.
  4. Assist with training and consultation for new employees, students, and medical staff.
  5. Participate in the Pathology Quality Assurance program.
  6. Identify process improvements and support organizational goals, potentially performing special projects.
  7. Stay updated on developments in Pathology through seminars, journals, and publications, integrating knowledge into work practices.
  8. Follow applicable rules, regulations, and policies, ensuring compliance and reporting unethical behavior.
