Job summary

ECU Health Medical Center in North Carolina seeks an MT Supervisor to oversee pathology operations when lab managers are off site. Responsible for staffing, coordination, and quality of service during evening and night shifts, while assisting with education and disaster coordination.

The role requires a CLS/MT degree, ASCP certification, and 4 years in a clinical lab. Excellent benefits, sign-on/relocation options, and a 40-hour week with a 7 on/7 off night schedule are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution.
• Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry is acceptable.
• 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other recognized certifying agency.

Job description

Position Summary

Medical Technologist (MT) Supervisors oversee the operation of the ECU Health Department of Pathology during times when the ECU Health lab managers are not on site. The MT Supervisor serves as the General Supervisor as defined by CLIA-88 Federal Regulations.

As a MT Supervisor, you will provide the following:

• Supervision - specimen acquisition, transport, computer staff, tech areas. Monitors staffing (review schedules to detect staffing problems). Monitorstriage of personnel on breaks and meal periods. Maintain effective communication within and between shifts. Monitor the quality of service on evening and night shifts. Aid in the evaluation of personnel in concert with the Section Managers and Medical Staff. Aid Education Coordinator with inservicing of personnel on evening shift.
  
• Make sure the hospital resources are used efficiently and effectively. May supplement the technical staff at the bench when appropriate. Notifies laboratory administrator, section managers, and pathologists of unusual problems. Ensure that laboratory and hospital personnel policies are enforced. Assist in the coordination of disaster situations and aids in orientation of staff. Aid in the evaluation of personnel for clinical ladder promotions. Assist with troubleshooting problems in the tech departments. Monitor the safety of the working environment and refer suggestions and observations to the safety committee. Help manage complaints from the nursing staff and medical staff about pathology services, and passes this information on to the laboratory administrator and management staff. May be responsible for selected computer operation functions, as necessary.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelors degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution.
• Bachelors degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree is also acceptable.
• 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.

Pay Range

• $34.74 - $50.64 (hourly)

Other Information

• 40 hours per week
• 7 On/ 7 Off Shift: Tuesday - Wednesday (9 pm - 7 am)
