Job summary

LewisGale Hospital Montgomery is seeking a Medical Technologist for PRN coverage to perform department procedures per established protocol and support laboratory operations. The role requires independence, accuracy, and strong technical skills in the designated sections.

Preferred candidates have 1-2 years MT experience and a Bachelor degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, with MT(ASCP) certification or equivalent as a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field.
• MT(ASCP) certification preferred or equivalent.
• 1-2 years MT experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs required procedures in the department according to protocol.
• Makes proper decisions utilizing job knowledge; works independently.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the designated section.
• Prioritizes work to meet shifts and turnaround times.
• Assists leadership and may train new employees and students.
• Shares daily workload within the department including phlebotomy and processing.
• Maintains communication with supervisors, colleagues and patients, ensuring confidentiality.
• Demonstrates proficiency in laboratory computer tasks.
• Performs instrument maintenance and quality control; troubleshoots instruments.
• Follows QA, safety, emergency preparedness and infection control plans.
• Provides care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary and Qualifications

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Performs required procedures in the department according to protocol.

2. Makes proper decisions utilizing job knowledge. Works in an independent manner.

3. Demonstrates proficiency in the designated section.

4. Prioritizes work to ensure completions within the assigned shift and within expected intervals, i.e., Stat, Routine, Urgent.

5. Assists the leadership in the completion of miscellaneous duties. May assist in the training and instruction of new employees and MLT students in clinical rotation.

6. Shares daily workload within the department including phlebotomy and processing.

7. Maintains good communication with supervisors, co-workers and customers. Respects patient confidentiality. Demonstrates an awareness of patient/client expectations and always seeks to satisfy.

8. Demonstrates proficiency in all laboratory computer related tasks.

9. Performs and documents instrument maintenance. Performs quality control according to established procedures. Troubleshoots instruments effectively when appropriate.

10. Understands and participates in laboratory QA plan, safety policies, emergency preparedness plan and infection control plan.

11. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age of the patient served.

12. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

Required - NA

Preferred - 1-2 years of experience as Medical Technologist

EDUCATION

Required - Graduate of accredited school of Clinical Laboratory Science. Bachelor degree in a related field.

Preferred - Bachelor degree
