Job summary

SGMC Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist for the PM LAB at the Main Campus. The role focuses on quality performance and reporting of analyses of technical procedures to support optimal patient care in accordance with regulatory standards.

The position requires CLIA-88 qualified technologists, MT certification, phlebotomy and point-of-care testing. Evening shift: 12:30–21:00, full-time in Valdosta, GA.

Qualifications

• Must be registered as a Medical Technologist, with CLIA-88 qualifications.
• Must be registered with a recognized MT certifying agency (ASCP, AMT, HHS/HEW, AAB or similar).
• Experience with phlebotomy and Point of Care testing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and report analyses of technical procedures to support patient care.
• Ensure compliance with FDA, JCAHO, CAP, STATE, AABB, OSHA regulations.
• Maintain safety and quality standards in the lab.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for quality performance and reporting of analyses of technical procedures for the benefit of optimal patient care within the limits of laboratory policy and procedures according to FDA, JCAHO, CAP, STATE, AABB, OSHA regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Qualifies as a technologist according to CLIA-88 standards and the Georgia Clinical Laboratory Licensure Law.
• Must be registered with a recognized Medical Technologist certifying agency such as ASCP, AMT, HHS/HEW, AAB or others as an MT.
• Persons who possess the technologist qualifications under Georgia State regulations and have recently moved to the state and/or have never worked as a medical technologist in the state or have recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements may be temporarily classified once as a technologists for 12 months to afford the persons an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination.
• Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care (i. e. Phlebotomy for laboratory testing and Point of Care testing) appropriate to the age of the patient’s seen in their assigned area.
• Must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide the care needed by our patient groups (i. e. , neonate, pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric). Normal color vision in order to discriminate and verify diagnostic laboratory stains and color dependent test.

WORKING CONDITIONS- ADA INFORMATION

Modern hospital Laboratory. Work activities will include: light lifting (not to exceed 25 pounds), walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting and pushing objects. Must be able to operate office equipment, computer terminals and keyboards, and computerized lab equipment. Works with blood and body fluids where exposure to infections disease is a risk. Must have knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and training in handling of hazardous chemicals. Complies with biohazard/radiation safety standards and laboratory policy and procedures through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical, biological agents and/or radiation sources in the workplace. Uses standard precautions and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including eye protection, face shields, lab coats, and /or gloves to protect self and co-workers from biohazards materials, including blood-borne pathogens.
