Job summary

Mercy Fitzgerald, part of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is seeking a Medical Technologist to join the Laboratory team. The role involves performing diagnostic tests across chemistry, hematology, blood bank, and microbiology with independent work in assigned areas.

This position supports patient care with high-quality results; a Bachelor's in Medical Technology and certification eligibility or ASCP MT certification are required or preferred, with various certification options noted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology required.
• Major in biology or chemistry, or equivalent with enough biology/chemistry coursework.
• Certification eligibility or existing MT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic laboratory tests across chemistry, hematology, blood bank, and microbiology.
• Ensure quality control and accurate results for patient care.
• Operate microscopes, analyzers and computer systems; maintain equipment.
• Work independently in assigned areas (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology).

Education

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology

Baccalaureate degree with a major in biological science or chemistry

Master's or doctorate in chemistry, biology, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology, allied health, clinical laboratory sciences or an appropriately related field (preferred)

Technologist certification (BB, C, CG, CT, H, HTL, MLS, M, MB) by ASCP

Bachelor's MT (ASCP) certification or eligible

Certified MT (HEW)

Certified MT (AMT)

Job Description

A Medical Technologist conducts diagnostic laboratory tests that are important in detecting, analyzing and treating a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions. A medical Technologist uses microscopes, chemicals, precision tools, analyzers and computer equipment to perform tests that give doctors and patients detailed information about various conditions, including the progress and prognosis of the patient. A Medical Technologist performs standard laboratory procedures consistently providing high quality patient care. A Medical Technologist is able to work independently in assigned areas (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology).

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology
• Baccalaureate degree with a major in biological science or chemistry, or baccalaureate degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology, chemistry and/or medical sciences, AND meet the training and/or experience requirements for the specific certification
• Master's or doctorate in chemistry, biology, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology, allied health, clinical laboratory sciences or an appropriately related field (preferred)
• Possess or be eligible for Technologist certification (BB, C, CG, CT, H, HTL, MLS, M, MB) by ASCP
• With Bachelor's; MT (ASCP) certification or eligible.
• Certified as MT (HEW)
• Certified as MT (AMT)
