Job summary

Mercy Fitzgerald, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is seeking a Medical Technologist to join our Laboratory team. This position performs diagnostic laboratory tests and supports patient care with accurate results across Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank and Microbiology areas.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s in Medical Technology (or equivalent) and ASCP certification or eligibility; a Master’s or PhD is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or equivalent
• A major in biological science or chemistry, or 30 semester hours in biology/chemistry/medical sciences with appropriate training/experience
• Master's or doctorate in relevant fields is preferred
• Technologist certification (ASCP) or eligibility (BB, C, CG, CT, H, HTL, MLS, M, MB)
• MT (ASCP) certification or eligible if applicable with bachelor's
• Certification as MT (HEW)
• Certification as MT (AMT)

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic laboratory tests across chemistry, hematology, blood bank and microbiology disciplines.
• Operate microscopes, analyzers and computer systems to produce accurate results.
• Work independently in assigned areas and contribute to high quality patient care.
• Document and report test results promptly and accurately.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology

Baccalaureate degree with major in biological science or chemistry OR 30 semester hours biology/chemistry/medical sciences

Master's or doctorate in chemistry, biology, immunology, microbiology or related field (preferred)

ASCP Technologist certification or eligible (BB, C, CG, CT, H, HTL, MLS, M, MB)

MT (ASCP) certification or eligible

Description

Mercy Fitzgerald, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is looking for a Medical Technologist to join our Laboratory team!

A Medical Technologist conducts diagnostic laboratory tests that are important in detecting, analyzing and treating a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions. A medical Technologist uses microscopes, chemicals, precision tools, analyzers and computer equipment to perform tests that give doctors and patients detailed information about various conditions, including the progress and prognosis of the patient. A Medical Technologist performs standard laboratory procedures consistently providing high quality patient care. A Medical Technologist is able to work independently in assigned areas (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology).

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology
• Baccalaureate degree with a major in biological science or chemistry, or baccalaureate degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology, chemistry and/or medical sciences, AND meet the training and/or experience requirements for the specific certification
• Master's or doctorate in chemistry, biology, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology, allied health, clinical laboratory sciences or an appropriately related field (preferred)
• Possess or be eligible for Technologist certification (BB, C, CG, CT, H, HTL, MLS, M, MB) by ASCP
• With Bachelor's; MT (ASCP) certification or eligible.
• Certified as MT (HEW)
• Certified as MT (AMT)
