Job Summary

Memorial Hermann Cypress seeks a Medical Technologist or MLT to join the team on Nights. Schedule: Nights, 7 on/ 7 off schedule. Position is responsible for performing various laboratory tests/procedures as assigned.
Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science (equivalency required for foreign education).

Licenses/Certifications: Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International), Certified CLS (ASCP), Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International) CM or ASCP Certification eligible.

ASCP Certification Eligible:

  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited MLS program within the last 5 years; or
  • MLT (ASCP) certification and two years of full-time acceptable laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last four years; or
  • CLA (ASCP) certification and a bachelor’s degree in a biological science and four years of full-time acceptable experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last eight years; or
  • Five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last ten years.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performs and documents test results, quality control, maintenance procedures and associated corrective actions according to policy/procedure.
  • Manages and performs other aspects of daily lab operations including collections, sample processing, results reporting/distribution, personnel direction (as appropriate), and clerical duties as required to maintain efficient workflow at a competent level and according to the age/needs of the patient/populations served, communicating special circumstances to appropriate personnel.
  • Interacts with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimens and orders coming into the laboratory and/or reporting results, following policies and procedures with sensitivity to customer needs.
  • Complies with policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and the system; understands, communicates, and complies with standards set by governmental and accrediting agencies including TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, and CLIA.
  • Performs duties promoting quality patient care and customer satisfaction, while ensuring safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the PI process.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
  • Supports professional growth and development through mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
