Job Summary

Memorial Hermann SE is seeking a Medical Technologist or MLT to join our team on the Night shift. A Generalist is highly desired. Must have ASCP or AMT certification—either MLT or MLS. New graduates will have 12 months from hire to obtain certification. The position involves 12-hour shifts, nights; 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., every 3rd weekend.

This role is responsible for performing various laboratory tests and procedures as assigned.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science (equivalency required for foreign education)

Licenses/Certifications: Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International), Certified CLS (ASCP), Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International), or ASCP Certification eligible.

ASCP Certification Eligible:

Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science and

  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited MLS program within the last 5 years; or
  • MLT (ASCP) certification and two years of full-time acceptable laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last four years; or
  • CLA (ASCP) certification and a bachelor’s degree in a biological science and four years of full-time acceptable experience in the same fields within the last eight years; or
  • Five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in the same fields within the last ten years.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Performs and documents test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and associated corrective actions according to policy/procedure.
  • Manages and performs other aspects of daily lab operations including collections, sample processing, results reporting/distribution, personnel direction (as appropriate), and clerical duties to maintain efficient workflow, communicated according to patient needs.
  • Interacts with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimens and orders, ensuring compliance with policies and sensitivity to customer needs.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and the system; complies with standards set by governmental and accrediting agencies including TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, and CLIA.
  • Performs duties promoting quality patient care and customer satisfaction while ensuring safety, cost efficiency, and supporting the PI process.
  • Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to all hospital policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary constraints.
  • Supports professional growth through mandatory and continuing education, serving as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to community care by creating compassionate, personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
