Job summary

Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia, LA is hiring a full-time Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). The MT/MLT applies medical technology principles to produce reliable results to aid diagnosis, with 7 days on/7 days off schedule.

The MT/MLT will perform tests across laboratory sections, supervise staff, and ensure regulatory QA/QC. Certifications and state licensure are required.

Qualifications

• MT requires a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related biological science.
• MLT requires an Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Certification as Medical Technologist (ASCP/AMT) or equivalent preferred.
• Current CLS license (LSBME Generalist) required.

Responsibilities

• Run lab tests in all sections of the laboratory.
• Review and approve results via LIS interface.
• Conduct routine LIS operations (order tests, check pending tests).
• Teach MLT students.
• Participate in PI studies as needed.
• Document results and QC activities.
• Perform QC, calibrations, and instrument maintenance.
• Oversee MLTs, Lab Assistants, Phlebotomists and students.

Currently, we are looking for a full-time MedicalTechnologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). The MT orMLT is responsible for the professional application of the principles,theories, and techniques of medical technology necessary to produce reliableresults to aid the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of patients andmaintaining skills in manual and automated testing of moderate and highcomplexity in all sections of the laboratory. Schedule will consist of 7 days onand 7 days off.

EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities

• Runs lab tests in all sections of laboratory
• Results lab tests by reviewing and approving throughLIS interface
• Conducts routine LIS operations: ordering lab tests;check for pending lab tests frequently
• Teaches MLT students
• Participates in PI studies as needed
• Appropriate documentation where required
• QC and troubleshooting
• Reagent changes and calibrations
• Instrument and equipment maintenance, record keeping,patient result review, QC review, as delegated
• MT oversees MLTs, Lab Assistants, Phlebotomists andstudents
• MLT oversees Lab Assistants, Phlebotomists and students

Education,Licenses and/or Certification:

• MT -Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry orBiological Science is required
• MLT -Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is required
• Certification as Medical Technologist by ASCP or AMT
• Current license as Clinical Laboratory Scientist,Generalist with the LSBME

Experience:

• MTminimumof twelve (12) months internship through a school of Medical Technology orprevious MLT training and/or experience
• MLTminimum of six (6) months of clinical training through an approved MLT training hospital or previous MLT experience

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

• Knowledgeof testing of waived, moderate, and high complexity in the followingdisciplines: General Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Therapeutic Drugs,Toxicology, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, Parasitology,Serology, and Microbiology
• Mustpossess analytical computer skills and knowledge of laboratory workflow
• Some knowledge of word processing
• Must work efficiently, unsupervised, and is expected toexercise independent judgment
• Proficiencyin using the Laboratory Information System, and for complying with allregulatory requirements, including College of American Pathologists (CAP) and JointCommission (TJC).
• TheMT will participate in proficiency testing. The MT may have additionaldelegated responsibilities.:The MLT is responsible formaintaining skills in manual and automated testing of moderate and highcomplexity in all sections of the laboratory, which include chemistry,hematology and coag, urinalysis, microbiology, blood bank, andimmunology.
• Responsiblefor following QC and QA protocols; is responsible for computer skills,proficiency in using the Laboratory Information System, and for abiding byall regulatory requirements including College of American Pathologists (CAP) and JointCommission (TJC). The MLTs work issubject to secondary review by an MT, and may have additional delegatedtasks at any time.
• TheMLT will participate in proficiency testing.
