Job Summary

Memorial Hermann SW seeks a PRN Medical Technologist or Medical Technician Days to join our Blood Bank.

Schedule: Days (0600-1430) and every other weekend.

Position is responsible for performing various laboratory tests/procedures as assigned.
Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science (equivalency required for foreign education).

Licenses/Certifications: Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International), Certified CLS (ASCP), Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International) CM or ASCP Certification eligible.

ASCP Certification Eligibility:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited MLS program within the last 5 years;
  • OR MLT (ASCP) certification with two years of full-time acceptable laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the last four years;
  • OR CLA (ASCP) certification with a bachelor’s degree in biological science and four years of full-time acceptable experience in the last eight years;
  • OR five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in the last ten years.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performs and documents test results, quality control, maintenance procedures and corrective actions according to policy/procedure.
  • Manages and performs other aspects of daily lab operations including collections, sample processing, results reporting/distribution, personnel direction, and clerical duties to maintain efficient workflow and meet patient and population needs.
  • Interacts with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimens and results, ensuring communication aligns with laboratory policies and customer needs.
  • Complies with policies, procedures, and standards of the laboratory, hospital, and system, including federal and state regulations and accrediting agencies.
  • Performs duties to promote quality patient care and customer satisfaction, safety, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Ensures safety for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to all hospital policies within budget and productivity standards.
  • Supports professional growth through ongoing education and skills development; mentors less experienced staff.
  • Models compassionate, personalized care and service standards, creating positive experiences for patients and colleagues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
