Full-time, NightsMonday-Thursday 9:00 PM -7:30AM (no weekend rotation)

Job Summary

The Medical Technologist-ASCP is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood banking. This role involves conducting diagnostic testing, analyzing test results, and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test outcomes. The Medical Technologist collaborates with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and effective patient care in an acute care hospital setting.

Essential Functions

  • Perform laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, urinalysis, and immunohematology.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment according to standard operating procedures.
  • Analyze test results for accuracy, identify anomalies, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Document all test results and report critical values promptly to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Perform venipuncture and specimen collection as required.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new laboratory staff and students.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with medical staff, patients, and other departments regarding laboratory procedures and test results.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain clinical competencies.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related science discipline required.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting preferred.
