Cottage Hospital is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform a broad range of tests across blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, urinalysis, and phlebotomy. You will verify results, maintain equipment, and collaborate with clinicians to deliver accurate, timely findings.

Schedule includes weekend shifts; a sign-on bonus is available. BLS and ASCP MT/MLS certification are required, with a bachelor’s degree or higher in medical technology or related fields.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field.
• ASCP MT/MLS certification or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of experience preferred (weekend scheduling).
• BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex tests across blood bank, chemistry, hematology, and microbiology.
• Verify results, maintain equipment, and ensure quality control.
• Operate and calibrate analyzers, and participate in QA programs.
• Communicate critical results to clinicians and nursing staff.
• Support safe specimen collection and proper patient identification.

Job Summary:

As a Medical Technologist (MT) at Cottage Hospital, you will perform a variety of complex tests in the areas of blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, urinalysis, and phlebotomy. You will play a vital role in ensuring patient safety by verifying test results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely results.

Scheduling needs currently include every weekend.

• Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids (blood, urine, spinal fluid) to identify normal and abnormal components.
• Verify and analyze lab findings, ensuring accuracy in results.
• Perform routine and high-complexity testing, and troubleshoot as necessary.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, including spectrophotometers and analyzers.
• Ensure quality control and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Collect and study blood samples using microscopic techniques.
• Label and handle specimens accurately, ensuring proper patient identification.
• Communicate critical lab values to physicians and nursing staff.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and safety protocols.
• Participate in quality assurance programs and assist with inspections.
• Support fellow team members in ensuring efficient lab operations.
