Job summary

MUSC Health Florence Medical Center is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) to join our laboratory team as a PRN employee in Florence, SC. The role performs routine and specialized diagnostic tests, prepares specimens, operates automated instruments, and maintains quality controls to support patient care.

Educational requirements include NAACLS-approved programs; certification from ASCP/AMT/NCA/HEW is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited/NAACLS approved program for Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
• ASCP, AMT, NCA, or HEW certification required.
• 1–2 years’ experience in an accredited laboratory preferred, new grads considered.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory tests per protocols.
• Prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing.
• Operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
• Performs quality control and assurance procedures.
• Records lab results in the system and ensures HIPAA and safety standards.

Job Description

Performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures. Prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures. Operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Performs quality control and assurance procedures. Records lab results in specified system. Follows all required HIPAA privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards.
