Job summary

A healthcare staffing agency is seeking a qualified laboratory technician to perform various laboratory tests. The ideal candidate will have a diploma or degree in medical laboratory technology and at least 1 year of relevant experience. Responsibilities include conducting routine tests, maintaining equipment, and ensuring quality control. Flexibility in scheduling is required, including weekends and public holidays.

Job description

Working with the Laboratory business Office to perform a variety of Laboratory Tests while rotating through various sections, delivering accurate, reliable, and precise test results in a prompt and efficient manner, which assists physicians in patient diagnosis.

Key Accountabilities
  • Performs routine test procedures, automated or manual, in the laboratory with little direct supervision.
  • Assists in the training of new personnel.
  • Maintains a clean and well-organised work area.
  • Maintains proper inventory levels of all supplies and reports any deficiency to the appropriate section manager or designate.
  • Reviews all daily QC results and discusses any problems with the appropriate section manager or designate.
  • Checks the performance of all instruments in the Laboratory and reports any that are not functioning properly.
  • Supports flexible staffing requirements in the department and participates in shift duties.
  • Complies with all regulatory guidelines, participating in CAP proficiency testing, National proficiency testing, and inter-Hospital QA programs.
  • Participates in a routine maintenance program for instruments and in ongoing CME and professional development programs.
  • Develops rapport with all Laboratory Staff and other Hospital departments.
  • Any other duties as assigned from time to time by management.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Recognised diploma or certificate in medical Laboratory technology, or recognised Bachelor of Science degree or polytechnic Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferably, at least 1 year of experience in a related medical laboratory.
