RESPONSIBLE FOR: Independently performs laboratory procedures for which the technologist has been trained and demonstrated competency. Performs laboratory testing on patients of all ages using professional knowledge of laboratory procedures, executing, interpreting, and analyzing in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications

• MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent plus sufficient college and/or technical courses and clinical training to qualify for testing and certification as a medical technologist by an approved certifying agency.
• Minimum Experience Required: None beyond education/training.
• Minimum Licensure/Certification Required By Law: Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by ASCP, AMT, or AAB, according to Georgia state regulations. Recent graduates or those who recently moved to Georgia may have provisional status for up to 18 months.

Additional Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology, or a related biological science preferred.
• One year of supervised clinical experience as a medical technologist preferred.
• Competence in areas such as chemistry, hematology, coagulation, blood bank, microbiology preferred.
