Job summary

UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technologist to oversee technical operations, support routine and advanced test procedures, and ensure quality assurance within the laboratory.

This full-time role requires a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science and state licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in Florida. You will supervise specimen preparation and contribute to QC/QA/QI activities while providing technical guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent that meets licensure qualifications.
• State licensure as Clinical Laboratory Technologist in Florida.
• One year experience in NAACLS approved program or hospital laboratory.
• New hires after Oct 1, 2024 require degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, or related field.

Oversees technical operations in the relevant clinical lab section, including technical support of laboratory operations, problem resolution, technical development and procedure implementation, purchasing, etc. Supervises preparation of specimens for analysis. Performs analytical procedures when required. Responsible for Quality Assurance functions, including data collection, analysis and reporting. Assumes operational responsibility during Manager's absence.

Responsibilities

• Routinely performs phlebotomy on infant, pediatric, and adult patients (as required by laboratory area).
• Accurately performs both routine and advanced test procedures in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and supports those initiatives that improve financial strength.
• Accomplishes laboratory quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA) and quality improvement (QI) activities of the laboratory.
• Acts as resource for daily lab operations. Provides technical support by identifying problems, providing expert assistance in technical situations, scheduling staff and providing input on performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent that meets qualifications for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist from the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel.
• Must meet state licensure requirements as stated in FL Statue 64B3-5.003 Technologist.
• One (1) year experience in NAACLS approved program OR one (1) year working as a Technologist in a hospital laboratory.
• New hires effective October 1, 2024 must have a Bachelor's degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, or related field. Academic equivalent OR academic and work experience combination equivalency acceptable. Current employees who were hired or transferred into the position prior to October 1, 2024 who holds a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent which meets state licensure requirements as stated in FL Statute 64B3-5.003 Technologist will be grandfathered in.
• Five years of experience as a Medical Technologist is preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Must possess either a temporary or current license as a State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the specialty(s) required for the job.
