Job summary

UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to perform diagnostic analyses on tissue, blood and body fluids using instrumentation and manuals methods, and to supervise test performance with a focus on quality. This is a full-time role in a dynamic clinical setting.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Florida licensure, and NAACLS program experience or equivalent hospital lab experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent that meets licensure requirements.
• Must meet Florida licensure requirements as stated in Florida Statute 64B3-5.003.
• One year experience in NAACLS approved program OR one year as a Technologist in a hospital laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and advanced test procedures on tissue, blood and/or body fluids.
• Uses analytical techniques appropriate for all age specific patients.
• Performs, evaluates and records quality control for each test performed.
• Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Performs pre-analytical functions to prepare specimens for analysis.
• Ensures proper operation of analyzers and equipment; documents actions.
• Trains new employees and laboratory science students.

Performs simple and complex analysis on tissue, blood and body fluids using laboratory instrumentation, manual methods and procedures. Approves the performance of tests by technicians. Assumes accountability for patient tests by providing a high standard of quality using independent judgement in the performance of standard operating procedures and complex instrumentation in varying sample environments.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent that meets qualifications for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist from the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel.
• Must meet state licensure requirements as stated in FL Statue 64B3-5.003 Technologist.
• One (1) year experience in NAACLS approved program OR
• One (1) year working as a Technologist in a hospital laboratory.
