Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a professional to join its Point of Care Testing team in Worcester, MA. The role involves performing and interpreting chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests with independence to aid in diagnosis and treatment.

You will be proficient with equipment and procedures for the assigned area and support testing operations across multiple sites. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, and three years of related experience; ASCP MT

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology.
• Three years of related experience.
• ASCP certification as MT is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follows established protocols to perform various tests, including the most complex, for an assigned area and provide guidance and consultation to staff.
• Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis and clinical condition to explain results.
• Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies and assists in the development of new tests and quality procedures.
• Ensures test results meet the laboratory quality control program requirements and maintains accurate records.

Hiring Range:

$35.50 - $54.18

(based on a full time schedule of 40 hours per week).

Please note that the final offer will vary based on scheduled hours. Compensation for part-time or reduced schedules will be prorated based on scheduled weekly hours, experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Works with considerable independence to perform and interpret various chemical, microscopic, and/or bacteriologic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Is fully proficient in the use of all equipment and procedures for an assigned area.

Major Responsibilities:

• Follows established protocols to perform various tests, including the most complex, for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I's and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results.


• Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.


• Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.


• Assists in development new test and quality procedures for assigned area.


• Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.


• Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area. Performs moderately complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.


• May assist in the roll-out of new equipment and equipment modifications.


• Instructs technicians and technologists in the set-up and operation of new equipment and procedures.


• Ensures compliance with all laboratory quality and safety policies.


• Instructs students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures.


• Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education: Required:

• Bachelor's degree or successful completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology.

• ASCP certification as an MT is preferred.
