Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform and interpret complex tests in a fast-paced core lab. You will ensure quality control, troubleshoot instrument issues, and maintain equipment while following established protocols.

The role involves teaching students and lab staff, documenting results, and coordinating with clinical teams to optimize patient care. Travel between Marlborough, Nashoba, and Groton may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or equivalent.
• Three years of related experience required.
• ASCP MT certification preferred; licensure/registration as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret a range of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests.
• Follow protocols; troubleshoot discrepancies in testing processes.
• Maintain equipment, contribute to quality procedures, and ensure safety policies.
• Instruct students and staff in lab operations and new procedures.
• Maintain accurate test records using computer-based systems.

Is fully proficient in the use of all equipment and procedures for an assigned area.Major Responsibilities:Follows established protocols to perform various tests, including the most complex, for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results.Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.Assists in development new test and quality procedures for assigned area.Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area.
