Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the Core Lab to perform and interpret complex lab tests on a per diem, as-needed basis. The role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and independence in a busy hospital setting.

Responsibilities include guiding staff, interpreting results in context of patient history, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field required.
• ASCP MT certification preferred.
• Minimum three years of related clinical lab experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret complex chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests.
• Guide and consult Medical Technologist I’s and technicians on test results.
• Troubleshoot testing process discrepancies and ensure quality control.
• Maintain equipment, records, and comply with safety policies.

Is fully proficient in the use of all equipment and procedures for an assigned area.Major Responsibilities:Follows established protocols to perform various tests, including the most complex, for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results.Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.Assists in development new test and quality procedures for assigned area.Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area.
